2. Creating road names in the centre of the roads.

    • Draw your road path.

    • Select it and give it a width value.

    • Then clone [COMMAND + =] the road, change the colour and make the width slightly smaller

    • Clone this smaller road and use the 'Bind to Path' [COMMAND + SHIFT + Y]. You are now able to type the road name in along the road. If the text appears upsidedown then the direction of the road needs altering. Undo [COMMAND + Z] until you have the clone of the centre road selected, then go to the REVERSE DIRECTION command and then bind to path and your type should appear along the road.

    • Now adjust the font, point size, baseline shift and kerning to get the desired effect.

      OR

If your text appears up-side-down, then continue typing. Deselect the path and then reselect the path with the OPTION held down. Then select the reverse direction icon from the operations palette. This automatically swaps the direction of the path and its contents.

Please send your tips in so we can all share them and hopefully make life that much easier.
